Just a random thought here....

So...has anyone else noticed that the song the alien fairy sings in Invasion of the Bane is exactly the same as that played in Episode 3 of Sanctuary, when the tombs in the crypt open?

Panda Note: Hello guys!! You probably know me from reviews to your fics, I used to lurk about and then got involved in stories. Now I thought I’d give it the old ‘panda’ try. I’m not sure how this is going to go but I’m hoping it’s well received. I’m just about to finish my last chapter to another fandom and have been itching to writing a BBT fic for sometime. Let me know what you guys think and I might just continue with this little thought below.

Let’s do this!

Well, today is my last day in charge of the 'Daily Jim' posts. I hope you've liked the pictures I've chosen during the week - no matter if most of them had already been posted before :S

And because I'm such a sentimental fool, this is today's pick:

... because, believe it or not, this was the first non-Sheldon pic of Jim I ever saw (... not counting my blurry memories of his character in Judging Amy, that is). I'll always have a thing for this one, and I still think this is one of his best shots. So <3

So I've never done a picspam of more than one thing before. And I've wanted to do this forever. So the most recent challenge at [info]picspammy was perfect for this challenge and finally gave me the motivation to do it.

The challenge was: "Something Different. We've noticed that a lot of people picspam the same things again and again for each challenge so we thought it would be good to bring in a little more variety to the community. This is not the kind of challenge to mold to fit your top fandom/actor/etc. For this challenge, you will be asked to picspam something you've never picspammed before."

This is totally not dial-up friendly.

Have some fucked up freaky shit.

Which goes to show you that you should get to work on your documents maybe instead of wandering off down random mysterious magic tunnels.

I have two story ideas, one inspired by learning that maps sometimes contain wrong information for copyright purposes and the other by an anecdote in Mary Roach's Spook about how long-ago people believed that pregnant women could make their baby ugly or deformed by looking at ugly things or having a bad shock. They weren't so-long-ago people, either, because apparently some folks thought that was what happened to the Elephant Man.

I'm mentioning this here because I need to remind myself that I can no longer say I can't write because I have no good ideas. I think my ideas for these two stories are actually kind of awesome; I would read these stories by someone else, too. And if anyone thinks of a good story inspired by those two bits of info, you go ahead and write them, and I would like to read yours, too.

When I eventually do write them, I've decided to share them here, locked. I could post them at [info]stellaxmaris but I actually have a lot of followers there, and they are only in it for the Torchwood fanfic (which I haven't the heart to write anymore; seriously, "Children of Earth" really put me off the whole fandom and its ancillaries. But I'm trying to muster my enthusiasm again before "Waters of Mars" comes on, I assume later this month; after I finish with Mad Men, I'm going to catch up on S2 and 3 of Sarah Jane). Also, I don't really monitor that journal and its contents so closely as to prevent plagiarism, and while I'm less concerned for a few fanfics (all they can really get from stealing is some pats on the back the don't deserve), original work is something that maybe someday I might be able to make a few bucks off of, crazy as it seems, and I don't want someone wrecking that.

Don't forget to yell at me some about my lack of productivity and hey-where-are-those-stories-you-promised?

I'm so scared to write cause I'm French and writing something like BBT is really difficult. Sorry if my Sheldon is OOC but I tried to be the more realistic as possible. Enjoy!!

Ooh! So excited, I saw this on [info]parsons_fans and went WHEE!! I do love Conan O'Brien and I can't but imagine that he and Jim will be awesome together. (Although, it will be a little weird seeing someone TALLER than Jim, LOL 6'2 is really tall in Hwood and Conan is 6'4!) Anyhoo ...

Th 11/12: Al Gore, Jim Parsons, Jason Mraz (And with such awesome guests!!!! I have three Mraz songs on my S/P music list!)

ETA: Just realized this will be after the next episode and before the Nov 16 episode and so we'll likely see an awesome clip from THAT episode! :D :D :D

I'm watching a show on National Geographic (dontcha love that everyone has a cable channel now?) about LSD, and they open with a lady drug dealer who delivers her customers drugged gummi bears. Although the voice-over commented that most people who take LSD are educated and upper middle-class, they can't possibly be people with kids. Tripping on gummi bears, oh my. XD

(Based on the lady currently on-screen, one of the side effects of psychedelic drugs may be excessive freckling.)

Someone I was talking to on Halloween made some reference to something that was like being on acid, or being stoned, or something. I replied that I had no real reference point for that simile, and they said they thought that was a disadvantage. But I don't know, I've known some very stupid people on drugs. There's a lot to be said for being the sober one who gets to laugh at it all.

(Ooo, 3-D models of serotonin molecules floating around on swirly neurons graphics.)

I have become quite enamored of Mad Men; I can't wait for the second season discs to start coming. I have another memory of some time this past summer, of someone telling me I ought to watch it, and then outlining Peggy Olson's whole first season arc as part of the reason why. He spoiled me a bit on the story, I have to say, but it was still wonderful to watch everything unfold. You'd really have to be living in a pop media-free box not to have had any of the various stories arcs and characters a little spoiled, really.

For anyone who does watch the show, here's my favorite moments from S1. )

There is a woman on TV comparing psychedelics to a "Matrix-ninja-Jedi" experience. Her name is P-Fairy or maybe T-Fairy. She performs at Burning Man. She referenced The Matrix, like, three times. XD
And that is what is awesome about... steampunk. No bullet-time to be seen.

#1. Does anyone at all use the iPhone app "iDrive Lite"? I want something to back up my contacts in "the cloud", and I've mostly heard good things about this, but I thought I'd seek your counsel as well.

#2. Office 2007 users, can you please tell me how to select consecutive/adjacent cells/rows/columns in Excel '07? In 2003, I can do SHIFT+arrow to extend my selection by one cell/row/column at a time. But every time I've tried to do it in 2007, it just selects the entire block of data. BRRRRRT. I used to use CTRL+SHIFT+arrow for that. Now, oftentimes in my job I have to select large chunks of data with pretty fair precision, e.g. selecting 19,724 rows of data out of 19,725. So I just used to do CTRL+SHIFT+arrow, then SHIFT+arrow (with the arrow in the reverse direction). It took like .00005 seconds. Now I'm having to use the mouse to scroll up and down and back and forth and it takes me forever. HELP! Am I just doing it wrong? Or have the shortcuts changed?

Now, I did notice that when selecting empty ells/rows/columns, SHIFT+arrow works to add one element at a time. Sadly, that is not useful to me at my job. I am very hopeful that it's just my ignorance of the program that's causing me this problem. Or there's a setting askew someplace. I've searched and searched the Interwebs but have found no solution. Help me, F-list, you're my only hope!

Friends/gentle readers...would you believe what I am doing today? I am IRONING. *waits for appropriate gasps of shock* Now, I can count on one hand the number of times in my life I have ironed anything (and one of those times, I only succeeded in burning the clothing and my own arm-skin). So this is pretty remarkable in and of itself. Thank goodness I have the FGRs to coach me through how to do it.

Me: "What does this button with the little nuclear cloud on it do again?"
FGRs: *sigh*

Hey - most of the things I own and put on my body don't need to be ironed (I think). Or I just don't care. Things get wrinkly as soon as you wear them anyhow, right? And if they look bad you can just toss them in the dryer and hot air flattens them out. Right?

FGRs: *sigh*

So. Not only am I using an unfamiliar appliance, but I am doing so on...A DRESS. Which I bought today. And will wear tonight.

*waits for you all to collect yourselves*

Did I mention I bought two dresses? I KNOW. That pretty much triples/trebles the number I had before, and that one was something I bought in 1993 and still have because, well, it fits and has no holes and the color is pretty on me (so I'm told).

I do not know what got into me. But these dresses are made of sweater-y material, so they are like sweaters, but long, and I can wear them with boots/Chucks, and they are comfy, and so here I am, almost like a proper girl and everything.

Now let's see if I can avoid setting myself on fire with this iron thing. I hear they get mighty hot.

Oh! In other domestic news, the new car has a name. By popular majority, it is...HAMMOND. It's very fitting, as Richard Hammond is compact, charming, and can survive just about anything. Let's hope this is true for the car. Beloved new Hyundai, I officially christen thee!

Thank you all for your votes. Hooray!

MY LIFE:

RENT: We open Friday, Nov. 13th. FUUUUUUUUCK OMG IT'S ALMOST HEEERE

School: Love econ, but I got a horrible grade on the last huge test so now I really need to rock this next one out of the park so I can hope to get a B. Or even pass the class, really, because right now I'm not... and I can't express how much that bothers me, since I should be rocking this class so hard it's forgotten its name. So I'm studying for the next Huge Econ test, which happens to be... the day before RENT opens. Thanks, prof.

Calculus scares me. I try not to think about it. Luckily, the next Huge Calculus test isn't until a week after RENT opens, so I have time to panic for that one.

Only four more weeks of Chinese and then I'm done with the Grinnell Chinese Department forever. HUZZAH!

Shakespeare continues to be awesome. Thought-provoking class that requires little to no effort or preparation on my part. GOLD.

Personal Life: Got a boyfriend. His name is Kyle, and he's wonderful, but we're long-distance because he lives in California and goes to school in Oregon. Anyway, he's not really a huge talker, so he doesn't contact me as much as I would like, which bothers me just a bit. I might bring it up to him later. I don't think it's anything personal, but I don't want it to be a symptom of something bigger, so I might bring it up.

Nanowrimo: Totally falling by the wayside until RENT is over. I've got a little over 2,000 words so far, which is horrible, but I'm going to word sprint it to the end in the last couple of weeks. I've got all Thanksgiving break, right? Right. >.> I'll make it work. My pride will not suffer me to not win NaNo this year -- I'm the ML for Grinnell, for chrissake, I've got to finish!

BLAAAAAH

COOL STUFF I'VE DONE LATELY: There's a girl who sits next to me in Calculus named Sally, who is a total sweetheart and I adore. Well, I've got "Bad Wolf" written on my pencil pouch, and one day I brought it out and put it on the table in preparation for class, like I always do, and Sally gives this huge gasp. "Bad Wolf!" and my ears perk up and I'm like, "Doctor Who?" and she says, "I've been obsessed with it all weekend, I started watching it last Saturday and I can't stop. I've watched the past two seasons in three days." and I said, "What episode are you on?" AND SHE SAID, "I'M ABOUT TO WATCH THE SEASON TWO FINALE."

YOU GUYS. [info]zombres, you will surely appreciate this. I discovered a DW fan, and a huge Rose/Doctor shipper, JUST BEFORE DOOMSDAY. IN THAT PERILOUS TIME JUST BEFORE YOUR SHIPPER'S INNOCENCE AND YOUR SOUL IS DAMAGED FOREVER. I wibbled for her inside, knowing what was in store.

(BTW, about an hour after Caclulus class ended, she texted me saying "I cried. A lot." I LOVE THIS GIRL)

So now we've been marathoning DW once a week since then, and she loves Donna and Rose and is sort of meh about Martha, which is wonderful. That DW time is sustaining me. <3
